Have you checked your VIT-D?

One of the major health concerns that has emerged globally in the recent past is Vit-D deficiency. Over a billion people worldwide are diagnosed with Vit-D deficiency or insufficiency. It is not just limited to adults; infants, children and even teenagers these days have been diagnosed of Vit-D deficiency. Usually 50 to 90 per cent of vitamin D is produced by sunshine exposure of skin and the remainder comes from the diet. Natural diet, most human consume, contain little vitamin D.

Vitamin D3 deficiency can result in obesity, diabetes, hypertension, depression, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoporosis and neuro-degenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease.

Vitamin D deficiency may even contribute to the development of cancers, especially breast, prostate, and colon cancers. Thus, to avoid or control the risk of being exposed to conditions emanating from the lack of Vit-D, it is essential to keep a check on the same periodically.

Clinically, Vit-D deficiency is often silent. However, one must be diligent in noticing the symptoms time and again. For instance, chronic muscle aches and pains or periosteal bone pain in adults are alarming symptoms. Children who often prefer to sit down for prolonged periods are also exposed to the risk of Vit-D deficiency.
